‘Gone Girl’ is a mystery, psycho, crime, thriller, and suspense novel written by Gillian Flynn. It was published in June 2012 by Crown Publishing. Gone Girl got an award as the #1 New York Time Best Seller Novel and soon enough won Goodreads Choice Award as Best Mystery and Thriller Novel.
‘Gone Girl’ narrates a story about Nick and Amy Dunne. They are wife and husband who live in North Carthage, Missouri. They used to have a very romantic relationship ever, till then on their fifth wedding anniversary, where they used to give clues for their wedding gifts, Amy is gone.
Nick, the husband, is looking for Amy at their house but she is not there and there is wrong things that Amy might be kidnapped or killed somewhere. Nick calls 911 to find Amy and the story goes wild. Amy, well known as the writer of the bestseller children novel entitled ‘The Amazing Amy’ and that’s make her disappearance becomes a hot news in America. People, ‘The Amazing Amy fans, looking for her in the whole city but there is no exactly clue where Amy is. But, the diary of Amy that almost burnt gives so many clues to the 911 officer, that Nick might kill Amy.
On her diary, Amy writes about how Nick treats her bad as Amy wants to have a baby but he won’t, and Nick cheats her with a college girl till Amy almost decides to shoot herself with a gun. American starts to judge Nick as a cold killer who heartlessly kills his sweet, famous, talented wife. But, it’s not the end of the story. Amy is a very genius girl who has endlessly series of lies, tricks, and twisted behaviors.
Well, this novel has been adopted to the cinema with the same title ‘Gone Girl’ in 2014. The film was directed by David Fincher and staring by Ben Affleck cast as Nick and Rosamund Pike as Amy.
Furthermore, ‘Gone Girl’ is a good reference for the literature students who want to analyze literary works using Psychological Criticism by Sigmund Freud.
